Risk management principles are used by many industries, including the life sciences, and by the agencies regulating these industries. An effective risk management program can facilitate compliance with FDA requirements such as good manufacturing practices (GMPs) or good laboratory practices (GLPs). In addition, there are at least a half-dozen global quality standards, e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 14971 and IEC 62304, that address the importance of applying risk management principles at every stage of the product lifecyle to reduce the likelihood of nonconformance to an acceptable level.
