SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, USA – September 21, 2018 – The Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) held its annual Huntsman Sports Festival on June 16, 2018. The festival features non-competitive running, walking and cycling races that allow registrants to raise money for cancer research while enjoying an event with friends, family and co-workers. The event’s fundraising goal for 2018 was $700,000.

MasterControl, a leading global provider of software solutions that enable life science and other regulated companies to deliver life‐improving products to more people sooner, sponsored 2018’s sports festival. Additionally, MasterControl has supported the HCI with the provision of complementary document, quality and business management software solutions for several years.

Jon Beckstrand, MasterControl’s chief executive officer, says that the values of the Huntsman research center are some of the highest MasterControl has the opportunity to support. According to Beckstrand, “MasterControl enables life science and other regulated companies to deliver life-improving products to more people sooner. Huntsman is a perfect example. They save lives on a daily basis and we’re proud to back them in any way that we can.”

Beckstrand, who completed the entire 140-mile cycling course, was in attendance with additional MasterControl employees who participated in the 140-mile course, the 30-mile cycling course, the 5k run or the kids’ fun run. Each employee, like all registrants, had the opportunity to ride or run while friends and family sponsored their efforts. In total, the fundraiser raised $680,000 on June 16, but related donations after the day of the event have allowed Huntsman to meet its goal of $700,000.

Randall Autry, senior vice president of architecture and cloud strategy at MasterControl, was the top fundraiser representing MasterControl. “Raising money for Huntsman was a privilege,” Autry said. “My family has been touched by cancer multiple times — my son, mom, mother-in-law and grandmother are all cancer survivors. I lost my stepmom to cancer when she was only 31 years old. I would love to see more people survive cancer and avoid it altogether. Huntsman is helping people do that.”

About the Huntsman Cancer Foundation
In 1995, the Jon and Karen Huntsman family started the Huntsman Cancer Foundation (HCF) to ensure the future of cutting-edge research at HCI. By funding efforts to better understand the beginnings of cancer and more effectively treat cancer, HCF helps relieve suffering and improve the quality of life for cancer patients, survivors, and their families. HCF encourages cancer patients, caregivers and donors to come together in myriad ways to fight cancer individually and collectively through fundraising programs and community outreach.
