SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, USA – July 20, 2018 - The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Salt Lake Area held the 51st Annual Great Futures Gala at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City on Saturday, May 12, 2018. The event, which is designed to raise scholarship money for children who have beaten unbelievable odds and for the overall operations of the clubs themselves, is eagerly awaited year-round by members, staff and sponsors alike.
MasterControl, a leading global provider of software solutions that enable life science and other regulated companies to deliver life‐improving products to more people sooner, has sponsored the Boys & Girls Clubs for several years. The company sponsored a table at this year’s gala in support of the eight clubs that comprise the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Salt Lake Area.
Alicia Garcia, MasterControl’s vice president of human resources, said the values and spirit of the Boys & Girls Clubs complement those of MasterControl and vice versa. “The clubs really focus on trying to improve the lives of children and teenagers, and MasterControl strives to build the products that will make the most life-improving differences to our customers,” Garcia said. “Plus, we simply enjoy working with them!”
Garcia and various MasterControl employees were in attendance at the gala to support traditions that include live and silent auctions hosted by Salt Lake City’s KUTV media station personalities, the “Bid for Kids” call for donations, and the announcement of the Youth of the Year award, which is the highest award presented to the Boys & Girls Clubs’ teen members.
The Youth of the Year award is presented to the club member who demonstrates exceptional academic success, a healthy lifestyle, good character and citizenship. Teens who wish to receive the award must also compete by writing essays, delivering speeches and undergoing an interview process. Winners go on to compete at the regional and national levels. All competitors receive a small scholarship and the Youth of the Year receives a larger endowment.
“We love the silent auction,” said Aaron Peck, a technical writer at MasterControl who attended the gala. “We won three items, a free night stay in Mesquite, and a massage from a $25 random balloon pop. We love going and love donating to the Boys and Girls Club.”
