Getting Invited to the Management Table

Quality has long reigned supreme for critical thinking. Why then has it been a challenge for quality to get invited to the daily management table and gain the attention of decision-makers? Part of it lies in the fact that quality actions are mostly oriented at the past. In other words, something has gone wrong, and we have solved it. Management is often most concerned about the “present,” making good decisions, and the ‘future;” executing those decisions with plans that go off without a hitch. This discussion will address how managers think and what connections quality can bring to help management meet operations and production objectives. Understanding the decision-making process will help quality professionals bring data that will make managers lives easier and more productive. Additionally, using predictive analytics and risk will allow management and quality to set up data needed prior to decision-making to help eliminate delays and false starts. Quality also plays a vital role in the planning process helping to identify critical areas of the plan and avoiding potential problems through both prevention and contingent actions. During planning quality can also draw attention to innovations that may facilitate or exploit advances in production. Session take-aways:: - Understand the links between problem solving, decision making, and planning - Acquire key questions that bring quality and management together - Understand data from managements perspective - Apply predictive analytics - Understand the impact of risk-based decisions
