The New Jersey Organ & Tissues Sharing Network, Inc.: Building Automated Efficiencies for Better Results
New Jersey Organ & Tissue Sharing Network, Inc. works to save lives on a daily basis, and is doing so more efficiently than ever.
Why the increase in efficiency?
The initial credit goes to a number of the Network's employees, ranging from the CEO Joseph Roth, Maria DeLauro, George Forleo, Alene Stewart, Jorge Kalil and others, who recognized the need for increased process efficiencies and better process organization throughout their company. Several employees of the Network joined the IT team, to search for a solution that would serve their particular needs. MasterControl, one of three or four software vendors considered by this team, was, after careful due diligence, singled out as the best option. According to DeLauro and Kalil, MasterControl was selected because it could:
One of the auditors, according to DeLauro, commented that MasterControl puts the control of audit information into the hands of the auditee...
- 1) meet all of the essential user requirements desired by the Network (e.g., document control, training, ease-of-use and support) and
- 2) provide validation services in conjunction with its products and additional services.
How does MasterControl help?
NJ Sharing Network works with many people including medical professionals, transplant recipients, donor families, and the community). In fact, when asked who the organization's primary audience would be DeLauro responded "the public."
Indeed, one of the organization's primary responsibilities is to educate both the public at large and hospital affiliates about the life-saving benefits of transplantation and the urgent need for organ and tissue donors. For this reason it is essential that NJ Sharing Network's employees have the time and resources necessary to expand their sphere of educational influence. Master Control has facilitated this process by streamlining workflow, automating documentation review and providing staff training. As the federally funded, state-approved organ procurement organization for the state of New Jersey, NJ Sharing Network now also enjoys a peace of mind that according to DeLauro isn't easy to put a price tag on. Why peace of mind? MasterControl helps NJ Sharing Network stay compliant with FDA and other regulatory requirements, and recently "proved its mettle" when NJ Sharing Network was audited by the FDA and other accreditation agencies. One of the auditors, according to DeLauro, commented that MasterControl puts the control of audit information into the hands of the auditee instead of the auditors, a comment which reflects the power that process automation can provide for any organization.
With MasterControl's help, NJ Sharing Network is also a step closer to achieving short and long-term goals such as increasing the number of possible organ and tissue transplants, rising to a transplant consent rate of 75%, and implementing best-practices--along with other organ and tissue transplant centers--across the US.
